Lake Haven Shopping Centre is pleased to present the winning local schools as part of the 2010 Better Schools Canteen Rescue promotion, a national program conducted by Colonial First State Global Asset Management centres during May and June this year.
Better Schools Canteen Rescue is Colonial First State Global Asset Management’s inaugural project under its innovative Let’s Live Better program, a unique partnership with the Children’s Food Education Foundation. The program is aimed at growing healthy communities across Australia to provide a better future for our kids. National prizes on offer consisted of a green makeover for school canteens worth more than $40,000.
Fourteen Central Coast primary schools participated in the promotion by earning points for every dollar spent at Lake Haven Shopping Centre, with double points allocated for purchases at Fresh Food stores.
All fourteen schools will be awarded prizes on Wednesday 21st July at an afternoon tea presentation at the front of Woolworths Lake Haven, for their efforts in raising awareness of healthier eating options to their students.
Three local schools will be awarded cash prizes for achieving the highest local point rankings;
1st. Tuggerawong Public School – will be awarded $2,000 2nd. Lakes Grammar – will be awarded $1,000 3rd. Woongarrah Public School – will be awarded $500
157 primary schools participated nationally in the promotion with Lockwood South Primary School in Victoria taking out the Canteen Rescue prize incorporating a comprehensive solar energy package from NU Energy, energy efficient appliances, an education consultant to design a fresh new menu, a year’s supply of Method’s green cleaning products and cash to fund the new canteen’s operation.
Local school Tuggerawong Public School finished 7th overall nationally.
Colonial First Stage Global Asset Management Head of Retail Operations George Karabatsos said Let’s Live Better was about connecting with Lake Haven’s local community and working with it to build a better future.
“This program was not just about green canteens or giveaways, it is about investing in schools and families to build healthy, sustainable communities,” George said.
